Trapani between Art and Architecture

Artworks that Tell a Story

Sicily boasts a treasure trove of artistic masterpieces, including paintings, sculptures, and architectural wonders that testify to the diverse influences of the civilisations that have dominated the island over the centuries.

Sicily’s artistic and architectural heritage is a compelling testimony to the island’s ability to absorb and reinterpret different cultural elements, creating a visual feast for those seeking to immerse themselves in Sicily’s rich history.

Trapani, with its privileged position on the coast of western Sicily, emerges as a hub of this heritage, hosting some of the most fascinating expressions of art and architecture.

From this cradle of civilisation, we invite you to explore the Sicilian hinterland, where every stone, every street corner and every masterpiece tells the story of a millenary cultural crossroads.

The Contemporary Revolution: Burri's Cretto

Burri’s Cretto is a unique experience in contemporary art, set in the picturesque Sicilian landscape.

The irregular cracks and open spaces between the white boulders create a visual labyrinth, arousing intense emotions and a sense of connection to the history and culture of the region.

Burri’s art manifests itself here in a tangible way, with his ability to transform destruction into beauty, offering visitors an opportunity for reflection and contemplation.

Walking through the ‘cracks’ of the Cretto becomes a journey through artistry and an immersion in the history of a place that continues to tell its story in a unique and tangible way.

Pepoli Museum: A Casket of History and Art

The Pepoli Museum is located inside the Convent of the Carmelite Fathers, whose structure dates back to 1315, adjacent to the Sanctuary of the Santissima Annunziata, which houses the marble statue of the ‘Memory of Trapani’, venerated by the people of Trapani.

The museum owes its name to Count Agostino Pepoli, who in 1906 decided to donate to the city of Trapani an artistic and cultural heritage of recognised value, bringing together the nucleus of works of art and archaeological artefacts that make up a large part of the museum exhibition today.
